PIERRE PISCITELLI is a pianist, educator, arranger, author and YouTuber from
New York City.

Pierre Piscitelli was born in New York City on May 24, 1991 into a musical family. Encouraged by his parents, both classical flutists, he began classical piano studies at age four and continued through his young adult years. Over time, his musical interests expanded, leading him toward jazz, pop, and other contemporary styles.

In 2009 Pierre received a scholarship to study music performance at New York University. He graduated in 2013 with a B.Mus. During his time in school, Pierre had the opportunity to study with jazz greats such as Andy Milne, Gil Goldstein, Billy Drewes, Wayne Krantz, and others.

“One of my first gigs right out of college, was working with legendary Broadway musical director Daniel A. Weiss (RENT, BKLYN, Hair) on Anthony Rapp’s new 2012 show, Without You. I was just starting to make a name for myself as an arranger, but in this case I was just a kid with perfect pitch who could quickly put the notes on the paper! I really loved doing this kind of work.”

Pierre went on to work as a session keyboardist for countless bands as well as an arranger for various string ensembles and big bands. His re-imagining of Metallica’s ...And Justice for All album for NYC-based orchestra Little Kruta, won an Independent Music Award in 2020 for Best Tribute Album.

“My goal was to completely reimagine the album so that it was almost unrecognizable from a musical standpoint. The lyrics and melodies were honored, but I really wanted to alter the harmonic information significantly as well as the tempos, grooves, etc.”

As a founding member of the folk band Bailen (Concord Music Group) Pierre toured the U.S., Canada, U.K., Europe and beyond for several years alongside/opening for Amos Lee, Raul Midon, Joseph, The Lone Bellow, Morgan James, and others.

Since 2017, Pierre’s big band arrangements of Todd Rundgren and Emerson Lake and Palmer’s compositions have been featured on several of the legendary Ed Palermo Big Band’s albums.

In 2018, a series of serendipitous events lead to a friendship with Pierre’s biggest musical hero, Lyle Mays (Pat Metheny Group).

“I had this crazy idea that I sat on for months, frankly because I was too scared to ask. In 2018, I finally asked Lyle if I could transcribe all of his music and create a proper music book for publishing. I really felt that the world deserved this. He enthusiastically agreed to the idea and we got started the very next day.”

In 2021, “The Music of Lyle Mays: Compositions, Transcriptions and Musical Transformations,” was released into the world. A comprehensive 253-page anthology of all of Lyle’s brilliant music, plus some of his writings and thoughtful anecdotes.

Prior to the release of Lyle’s Music book, Pierre worked with Lyle to score his magnum opus, Eberhard. It was a months-long process, completed remotely right before the 2020 pandemic. Eberhard was completed prior to Lyle’s untimely passing in February 2020 and went on to win a Grammy Award for best Instrument Composition the following year.

In 2023, Pierre’s passion for all things music led to the creation of a YouTube channel where he creates comprehensive, multi-camera piano tutorials. He has been featured on Rick Beato’s YouTube channel as a guest several times.

“My goal was to create the very best piano tutorials that I possibly could. Multiple camera angles, light-up keys, a grand staff, sheet music available for download, etc. None of this ever would have happened without the encouragement, guidance and advice of Rick. Running a YouTube channel makes everything else I’ve ever done feel easy!”

Through the success of his channel, Pierre has built a following of 70K+ subscribers, a roster of online private students, rapidly-growing sheet music library, and is currently in the process of developing online courses scheduled for release in the Fall of 2025.
